Is knowing obsolete? No the power to know is not obsolete. I believe in what Dr. Mitra is doing when it comes to teaching children new things. Instead of using the same age old method of learning where we teach teach teach and then test we should allow kids to explore the knowledge that is present. We should allow kids to explore what they want to learn and show interest in new understandings or ideas. We should teach the kids just enough to peak their interest and then after that allow them to explore and learn things on their own whether it be a reading something from a book, doing a quick Google search, etc. Dr.Mitra's "Hole in the Wall" experiment is perfect because it allows kids to learn own their own really by simply presenting them a computer and learning new things by Dr.Mitra simply presenting a question. We should at least teach the kids the fundamental of writing, reading, and other fundamentals but then allow them to learn topics on their own based of the things the child is wanting to learn.
This Thanksgiving I will probably be doing the traditional things everyone does every Thanksgiving. I will eat the same traditional food that my family eats every year. I really don't care though what I eat honestly as long as I am spending time with my family. I am off all day due to were I work (in a pharmacy) and I will get paid holiday pay on top of not actually working. Then I will probably go to some Black Friday shopping for some stuff mainly because all the deals start that night. That is pretty much it when it comes to cooking for Thanksgiving because we do not have a specific tradition when it comes to Thanksgiving. My parents just both cook the day of and the night before to get everything started and prepared. It would be nice if we switched it up and actually went somewhere like to Tennessee or somewhere different.
I agree with Kirby Ferguson on his TED talk. Every form of media, art, text, etc has all stimulated from one another. They build on top of one another each year and remixing in different ideas and concepts. Avatar directed by James Cameron copies the whole indigenous story from historical context back when Western Expansion took place and from other movies such as Dancing with Wolves. But James Cameron expresses his story in a completely different way by placing us on the world of Pandora and takes to science fiction setting where the indigenous people are nine feet tall and are blue. I do not necessarily believe that we need to just plagiarize away but I do believe we can remix other works because mainly its been going on for centuries. Everything has been remixed or improved on over the years from many different forms of media, inventions, etc.
The hardest decision I have made so far in my life is settling on going to school to become a pharmacist. The reason why it is the hardest decision I have ever made is because it has taken me almost two years to settle on the career due to me wanting to actively pursue other careers and I have a wide assortment of interest. The decision was hard because I kept flip flopping between whether I wanted to spend my time and go to school to become a doctor. I became interested in the field of Radiology but the schooling for it takes forever and residency takes about five years to complete. I honestly didn't want to spend that much time in school. I do not want to officially start my career at almost 40 years old. Another reason why it was a hard decision to make is because I was wanting to possibly go to school to become a nurse. Nursing would be a phenomenal field but I think it takes a certain kind of person with a high tolerance stress level to handle that job. Pharmacy can be stressful but I highly doubt it is as stressful as being a nurse. Really becoming a pharmacist just in the ends feels right for me. I have already worked two years in a pharmacy and working on going towards my third year. I enjoy the career a lot because the wide assortments of different information you learn. A pharmacist can specialize in different settings whether it be clinical, oncology, nuclear, etc. It is a well paying job and no matter what anybody really says, the world will need pharmacist just like we need doctors, nurses, dentist, and anybody else in the medical field because they are all part of the health care team.
My favorite song at the moment is the song called 'Stressed Out' by 21 Pilots. The reason why I like the song is because it alludes to how simple things were when we are all kids and didn't have a worry in the world. But now that we are older we tinned to be more stressed out because we are having to worry about our future, have a well paying job after high school and college, having to worry about student loans, having to worry about the insecurities and struggles of adulthood. The song just resonates with because it touches on a lot of things that are going on with my life and sometimes I just miss being a nine year old kid and not having a care in the world about anything I am worrying about now. I was more focused on what toy, movie, or video game my parents were going to buy for me next not what my major is and how am I going to pay for pharmacy school. 'Stressed Out' is on of my favorite songs among the several I have.
The Luckies cigarette advertisement appeals to consumers on many different levels that are rational, bandwagon, and in fear.
First off when you see this advertisement you notice the dark red background that sticks out. Red is a warm color and is easy on the eyes so the advertisement is sure to turn heads with its vibrant back ground. Another thing that stands out is the middle age man on the advertisement that is suppose to represent a doctor. This a lone would attract a consumer for the product because seeing a middle aged doctor recommending that you should smoke Luckies cigarettes because he is a doctor with seniority. Also seeing a doctor in general recommending something at the time would get people going on possibly buying the product because everyone trusts the white coat and the doctor isn't fresh out of medical school. Not only does the advertisement show just the one doctor it goes on to say that 20,679 physicians recommend Luckies. That alone is a massive figure of doctors and a consumer seeing the amount of doctors recommending Luckies then that would appeal to the consumer by a rational standpoint due to it giving a very specific figure instead of the old "1 of 10 doctors....". It also delves into the fear aspect of it because here you have 20.679 doctors recommending Luckies and if dont buy the product your throat is going to be more irritated by the competitors brand of cigarettes. No one i going to question the seniority of a doctor especially 20,679 of them. Another thing that would seem applying to the consumer is that the doctor is very clean cut and teeth are white. This would be applying because you wouldn't want to buy a product if the one advertising the cigarette would be some type of slouch. Another thing is that the doctor is jutting his fist out forward in the advertisement as if that he is confident in the product and you should be confident as well in his confidence. Second thing that the advertisement pushes to is that there brand of cigarette is less irritating than the competitors. The writing is in a semi-bright yellow that is abstract to the dark red back ground so that the wording of the advertisement stands out more so that the consumer can see the main selling point of the cigarette. Words such as "Its Toasted" or "Your Throat Protection against irritation against cough" are in white and stand out highly against the dark read background. The "Your Throat Protection..." each letter is capitalized to signify that it is "Your" health that "You" should care about in order to protect your "Throat" against other competitors. |
